Fez
Fez, a city in northern Morocco, is the seat of the Fez-Meknes region and has around 1.2 million inhabitants. Founded in the 8th century by Idris I, it quickly became an important cultural and scholarly centre. It is famous for the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque, one of the oldest universities in the world. The Medina of Fez, a labyrinth of narrow streets and traditional workshops, is on the UNESCO list. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters. Fez is best visited in spring or autumn, when temperatures are moderate.
