Skopje
Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, lies in a basin on the Vardar River, east of the Sar Mountains. The city is home to more than 611 thousand people and is the country's main economic and academic centre. Skopje is an important transport hub, with an international airport to the south-east of the centre. Among the sights is the Stone Bridge dating from 1469. The climate is continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are milder.
