Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol in Austria, lies in the valley of the river Inn at 574 m above sea level. The city has 131,358 inhabitants. It is known for hosting the Winter Olympic Games in 1964 and 1976 and for a rich history dating back to 1187. The Hofburg and Ambras palaces and the medieval old town are all well worth a visit. Average summer temperatures reach 20-25°C, while in winter they fall to -5°C. The best time to visit is spring and summer, when you can enjoy walks in the mountains and among the historic sights.
