Helsinki
Helsinki is the capital of Finland, set on the Gulf of Finland. With around 650 thousand inhabitants, the city is the country's cultural, industrial and administrative centre. It is home to the renowned University of Helsinki, founded in 1828, and to Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The Suomenlinna fortress is worth visiting, as is a stroll through the picturesque city centre. Average temperatures are -5 °C in winter and 20 °C in summer. The best time to visit is the summer months, when the days are long and warm.
